eBook Collections “Highly Recommended” by Library Journal

GeoScienceWorld (GSW) is pleased to share that the GeoScienceWorld eBook Collections have been “highly recommended” by Library Journal reviews. The reviewer, Bonnie Swoger, Science and Technology Librarian at SUNY Geneseo, evaluated the Collections in terms of content, usability, and pricing, and applauds the modern appearance and enhanced functionality of the resource, hosted on the HighWire Open Platform.

The review commends the breadth of the disciplines represented in the Collections, the platform’s sophisticated advanced search, the discoverability of predictive text based on GeoRef terms, and the flexibility and convenience of its individually downloadable eBook chapters. Other features receiving praise include geoscience-related facets and the option to filter results by geologic time: eras, periods, epochs, and ages.

Swoger concludes that the platform is “an excellent collection for schools with geoscience libraries… Highly Recommended.” The full review can be found at:  http://reviews.libraryjournal.com/2014/10/reference/ereviews/voxgov-geoscienceworld-ebook-collections-reference-ereviews/.

The platform contains more than 1,050 titles with more than 100 new titles being added in 2015. eBooks are cross-searchable with 130,000 GeoScienceWorld journal articles from leading global earth science publishers. eBook Collections are available for institutional purchase with title and article sales to individuals starting in 2015.

“We are excited by the very positive reactions from librarians and users to the GeoScienceWorld eBook Collections,” says Alix Vance, CEO of GeoScienceWorld. “What’s more, in the coming year, we will introduce a new platform for our journals and GeoRef platform that will allow users to search a wide array of earth science materials with the latest integrated technology enhancements, from a single, affordable, non-profit source.”
