GSW Announces New Executive Team Member

GeoScienceWorld is pleased to announce the appointment of Christopher Straub as Deputy Executive Director. This expansion aligns with the organization’s new strategic plan, which calls for increasing services for partners and stakeholders in today’s rapidly changing information landscape. This new position is intended to add to the organization’s capacity and agility as it helps address the challenges faced by societies, libraries, instructors, and researchers and introduces new platforms to increase the discovery and use of scientific content.

GeoScienceWorld (GSW) is pleased to announce the appointment of Christopher Straub as Deputy Executive Director. This expansion aligns with the organization’s new strategic plan, which calls for increasing services for partners and stakeholders in today’s rapidly changing information landscape. This new position is intended to add to the organization’s capacity and agility as it helps address the challenges faced by societies, libraries, instructors, and researchers and introduces new platforms to increase the discovery and use of scientific content.

Executive Director Alix Vance says, “Chris has gained tremendous digital publishing expertise as Director of Finance at CQ Press and Controller at SAGE. He has a comprehensive understanding of emerging business models, finance, and operations in primary and secondary publishing. He is also deeply interested in how back-end performance contributes to improved outcomes for end users. With Chris joining GSW, our communities of researchers, libraries, publishers, and authors are assured of smooth back-end functioning and will experience great gains as we move ahead with our planned expansion initiatives.”

Straub will be responsible for the internal operations at GSW, including managing financial, accounting, operations, and vendor services. With 15 years of experience and progressive responsibilities in online publishing and information industries, he brings an outstanding background in best practices for digital businesses.
